How to Do a Great Manicure at Home

  • Remove any old nail polish with a nail polish remover and cotton balls. You should use a remover that is acetone-based since this will remove the polish faster.
  • File your nails the way that you want them. The best choices are either square-rounded edge or slightly rounded shape. You don’t want to use a metal nail file since these will cause your nails to splinter. Instead, you want to choose a crystal nail file or gently abrasive nail file.

  • In a bowl, add some warm water and a squirt or two of body wash. You don’t want to add dish soap to the water since it can dry out your hands. Soak your hands in the bowl for 2-3 minutes.
  • Using a cuticle pusher, push back the cuticles of your nails but don’t push them too far back.
  • Using a hand moisturizer, massage it into your nails and hands in order to moisturize and hydrate your skin.
  • You want to start using a base coat because this will protect your nails from chipping and staining. Allow the nails to dry for 2-3 minutes before applying the polish. You want to apply two coats of nail polish color, letting it dry between coats. After the second coat of polish dries, add the topcoat of polish. The topcoat is designed to add luster and shine to your nails.
  • In order to keep your manicure neat in appearance, touch up the topcoat every 2-3 days.
