4 Ways to #DoMore With Your Family Today

This post is brought to you by Degree® with MOTIONSENSE™.  All opinions are completely and totally my own.

A couple weeks ago we had a loss here at Two Kids and a Coupon when my father passed away unexpectedly. While it’s never easy to lose someone you love, it also makes you realize how numbered our days our, and reminds us how we need to remember to cherish the days that we do have, even if they seem normal and mundane.

Unplug the Cord
Too often these days we’re all in the same room and with today’s technology we don’t even talk to each other between cell phones, TV, iPads, computers and more. Take time to turn off the technology every day or at least once a week and spend time together as a family to eat, play or just spend time together doing whatever it is you love.

Work Does a Body Good
Is there work to be done? Why can’t the kids help out too? Crank up the stereo for some dancing music and let the kids help with housework too, or have them help pitch in with raking leaves and yard work. It’s still spending time together, teaching them how to do things themselves and also a sense of responsibility of getting things done.

Record Those Memories
No one ever wishes later that they had taken fewer pictures. With today’s technology, it’s easier than ever to take great photos and videos of your family doing things you love or even just hanging out at home. Even if you just use your cell phone camera, be sure to record the laughs, the smiles and the magic moments that you’re enjoying with your kids so that you can look back on them later. Both you and your kids will love to see how much they’ve grown.

Go Outside and Play
Yes, there are always dishes to be done, floors to be mopped and other work to be done. But those little boys and girls waiting for you are only going to be little once. Let the dirty pots and pans wait a little longer and go for an adventure hike, play at the park or catch lightening bugs in the back yard. You’ll have just as much as the kids  — maybe more!

How do you do more with your family?

  1. Todd Lovessweeps says:

I have gotten my kids into Geocaching – it is a great way to get outside and spend time with them

  2. Sorry to hear about your father. My father was recently diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. Still trying to wrap my head around it. It came on so sudden and was so unexpected.

  3. Great tips, we do have to remind ourselves to unplug and enjoy the simple things in life! Sorry to hear about your father, sending hugs. :(

  4. With some cooler weather finally setting in around here we are loving spending more time outside. It’s my son’s favorite place to be!

  5. I’m so sorry to hear that you recently lost your father. Hugs to you and your family.

I agree…the dishes and housework just have to wait sometimes…kids are only young once and time flies. I blinked and my daughter turned 21!!

  6. We love geocaching, too!! We spend a lot of time outside finding ways to #pushawaythescreen. We love long bike rides, walks, and just playing at the park! We also do a lot of family 5K’s together and it’s so nice!

  7. Go outside and play this is a great thing, we tend to miss out on this a lot.

  8. It’s always good to be able to do more with our families. Glad Degree can help us with this and we can stock up on it at Sam’s!

  9. I’m guilty of being online too much. Thanks for the god tips on incorporating everyday things into family time!

  10. I try to do as much with my boys outside. They are too small to do work around the house but we do go outside and play together as much as possible when the weather allows it.

  11. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I have a mom/son date with my son at least twice a month. We do family movie night and family game night, at least once a week. My husband works from home as well, and his schedule is very flexible (usually), so he does a lot of “guy” time with my son. My husband, son, and I do hikes (among other things) together at least twice a month, and my hubby and I try to have a date night at least once a month. :)
