Two Kids and a Coupon is a Fox Home Entertainment Insider and received information on this film and this interview opportunity a Fox Home Entertainment Insider. All opinions and fun had talking to this cute, adorable, talented actress are completely our own.
If you’ve been reading Two Kids and a Coupon for awhile now, you know we’re a little nuts about movies around here. My husband and I even got married in a movie theater and we watch movies at home and go see them in the theater whenever we get the chance . One of the fun, family friendly blockbusters we had the opportunity to check out this summer was Epic.
Epic is fun adventure where a teenager (Amanda Seyfried) is transported to a magical world in the forest where everyone is the size of bugs and is recruited by a nature spirit, Queen Tara (Beyoncé Knowles), to help the “Leafmen” save their existence – and ours – from evil warriors. This family friendly film includes astonishing animation and all-star voice cast that includes Colin Farrell, Oscar® Winner Christoph Waltz, Steven Tyler and child actress Emma Kenney who we had the honor of interviewing earlier this week.
While you might be familiar with Emma as her familiar role as Debbie in Showtime’s “Shameless“, she also starred as the voice of the Marigold girl in Epic and we had fun opportunity to chat with Emma about her role in the film and about what it’s like to be an actress. Here’s some of the things she had to tell us.
What’s it like to voice an animated character, rather than star in front of a TV or movie camera?
I had never done animation or voice over before, and being part of a movie you enjoy is really, really fun. I’m more of a facial expressions kind of actress and if you don’t have your face, you have to learn to portray your character’s emotions and thoughts through your voice. It’s really hard and different, but doing that was really fun — to work on it and learn new steps. Doing a movie you enjoy is really, really is fun.
Epic has a strong environmental message. What would you do to encourage kids to be more green?
To recycle, it’s so easy, take your bottle and put it in the recycle bin, it’s a bright blue bin. and go outside and pick up trash if you see it.
What do your non-acting friends think of your career?
I think they think it’s cool. We don’t really talk about it and I’m really glad about that. It’s really cool to work as an adult and to do an adult job and to work on an adult show. We have a lot of fun on set, but I want to be able to be a normal kid too.
What types of roles would you like to play as you get older?
I want to do an action movie. Maybe also a sweet typical teenage nice girl for once.
Any exciting roles or parts coming up in your future?
I’ve got a new part that I’m really excited about. I just finished a fitting for that I love the wardrobe for,and at the end of September I go back to California for filming Shameless. It’s been almost 10 months since I’ve seen my Shameless family.
You have a birthday coming up, any big plans?
I’m turning 14 on the 14th. It’s my lucky birthday. For the last few year’s I’ve been in L.A. filming. I’m actually going to be home with my friends and family before I go back to California for filming. Maybe I’ll go to the beach or something even though it’s fall.
What advice would you have for kids who want to go into acting?
To go for it. To act whenever you can. It’s so much fun. To watch the old classic movies. To make movies. To take acting classes. To act whenever and wherever you can.
How did you prepare for your role in Epic?
I imagined a little girl who idolizes the queen and a celebrity. For inspiration I took one of my friends who idolizes a Taylor and put my own twist on it.
Thanks to Emma Kenney for this interview!
