Planning a Kids Birthday Party on a Budget w/ @DollarTree – Part 1

When you have two kids with birthdays only 5 days apart, planning birthday parties and buying gifts can break your budget that month. While we obviously know the expenses are coming and we’re frugal in our spending by nature, it’s still tough to have great events when you have two birthdays so close together, especially when you’re watching your spending. My family is huge, and with a whole posse of nieces and nephews, there’s no such thing as a “small” get together when we throw a party.

Last weekend we through a joint family early birthday bash for my soon to be 4 and 9 year old, and the folks at Dollar Tree asked us to stop in one of their stores and and see if we could shop for a large family birthday party on a budget.

Now if you read Two Kids and a Coupon regularly you know that we weekly post Dollar Tree deals and savings, and that Dollar Tree now accepts coupons!  While we do have to drive half an hour to the nearest store, we do stop in often when when we’re in the area, so we knew we could get a wide variety of snacks and chips for the party, and make our budget go even further using manufacturer and printable coupons.

Next up, we hit the party aisle. there was tons of great assortment to choose from and you’d never guess that it all only cost $1 each! There’s lots of selection that’s theme specific, gender specific (boy or girl parties) or great for just a general birthday party like what we were having. They had a nice variety of coordinating items too, so we were able to get plates, cups, hats, napkins and more that all matched for our event!

If you’re having graduation instead of birthday parties this season, Dollar Tree also has a huge assortment of school color specific items that would be great for graduation parties!

They also have a great selection of cards and balloons at just a $1 as well. If you’ve priced greeting cards or helium balloons lately, you know this is a great price!  Our local grocery store and florist don’t even carry helium balloons right now with the helium shortage, much less just for a $1.
