Like many of you, we’ve been spending some time this April celebrating Earth Month here at Two Kids and a Coupon and we’ve been doing some special activities to teach the kids about the environment and how to respect our place in it.
For the Birds
Celebrating spring isn’t just for us humans, the birds are loving this warm weather too, even if there’s not much food around yet. A great spring project to build with your kids (and reuse a 2 –liter soda bottle) is a simple bird feeder. Here’s how to build an easy birdfeeder with your kids.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
This Earth month spend some time with your kids if they’re old enough and explain the importance of reducing waste and recycling. Our kids are 8 and 3, and they regularly help us with the recycling and with redeeming cans and bottles which have a 5 cent deposit here in Iowa. Where we live we don’t have to sort out our recycling by the different types (paper, plastic, etc.) but if you have to do this where you live, here is a fun “Curious George’s Recycling Challenge” to do with your children that includes a medal that they can color and receive for their hard work for learning more about recycling.
Put a Spin on Things
Want one more simple project that makes learning about Earth Month a breeze? How about how to make a pinwheel? This easy printable sheet for kids to cut and color can help you make a pinwheel with just a pencil and a thumbtack.
In addition to doing these fun projects over the weekend, we also had the opportunity over the weekend to check out an advance screener copy of “Curious George Swings Into Spring” a new Curious George TV special that will air on PBS Kids on April 22nd. In this fun adventure George, the man in the yellow and other friends explore spring had have variety of fun adventures. This fun special is a must for any Curious George fans and you’ll definitely want to check your local times and listings and set the DVR for this one so you don’t miss it.
Also be sure to join us as @2kidsandacoupon on Twitter tomorrow night 4/16 for the #CuriousGeorgePBS Twitter party to win some great Curious George prizes. Check out my post here for more details on the party!
