Why the Groundhog Lied & Baking Up Spring Fun Anyway w/ #GreatValue

Ok. I’m sorry, but I think good ol’ Punxsutawney Phil lied. One month ago he supposedly told us that spring was on it’s way and we haven’t seen anything but snow storm after snow storm after snow storm since.  While it may be March outside now, with a good 20 or so inches of snow on the ground or so outside here in Iowa it’s not exactly looking a much like spring yet.

I have to admit it’s been kind of a long winter and all the grey skies and cold have kind have had me down. It’s been hard to get in the mood for our upcoming spring themed Great Value baking project, but the kids and I decided that since the snow isn’t going to go anywhere any time soon, we need to ignore Phil and his forecasts (after all he’s just a stupid groundhog anyway) and have some fun making some yummy treats with Great Value products from Walmart.

Great Value Refrigerated Crescent Rolls

Refrigerated Crescent Rolls from Great Value

You may have been reading about some of our previous Great Value baking projects using this affordable line to create some tasty creations and this month our assignment is to use Great Value refrigerated crescent rolls and cookie dough in a couple spring time recipes.
Here’s just a couple of the things we’ll be making:

Fun Time Fruit Pizza

Ingredients

  • 1 Tube Great Value Sugar Cookie Dough
  • 1 Container of frosting (or make your own)
  • Assorted fresh fruit

Directions

  • Roll out sugar cookie dough flat into pan and press smooth (like making a pizza crust)
  • Bake as directed or until golden brown
  • Let cool
  • Once cool, generously frost with favorite frosting
  • Then add your favorite fresh fruit.
  • Chill until serving

Shamrock Pudding Cups

Ingredients

  • 1 Tube Great Value Sugar Cookie Dough
  • Non-stick baking spray
  • Milk
  • 1 box vanilla pudding
  • Food Coloring

Directions

  • Using a muffin tin generously grease each section (1 tube makes about 10-11 cups)
  • Divide cookie dough into even sections into each cup and using fingers or metal spoon sprayed with cooking spray press dough firmly to sides and bottom of each cup so that it forms a small bowl.
  • Bake as directed watching them closely and remove from oven when they turn golden brown
  • Once cooled, gently use a knife to cut along edges and help remove cookie cups from pan.
  • Next, make pudding using milk as directed. We made green pudding for St. Paddy’s Day, but add whatever color works for you!
  • Fill cups gently with pudding and chill until serving.

We haven’t decided what we’ll be making yet with our crescent rolls, so stay tuned for more recipes and photos of our Great Value baking projects!

  1. My kids would LOVE those Shamrock Pudding Cups!! And with St. Patrick’s Day in just 2 weeks, that will be a fun way to “celebrate” even though we’re not Irish!
