#Movie Review: Protecting the World & Getting Laughs from “The Watch”

What would happen if 4 normal guys from the “burbs” were all we had between us and the threat of alien invasion? One of this fall’s hottest comedy releases is now available on blu-ray and DVD as “The Watch” moves into action. Here’s a synopsis:

Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade take male bonding to hilarious new heights in this outrageous, no-holds-barred comedy that gets funnier every time you watch! There’s trouble brewing in peaceful Glenview, Ohio. That’s why four civic-minded citizens, armed with flashlights, walkie-talkies and spiffy new jackets, have teamed up to safeguard their community. But the guys find more than they bargained for when they uncover an alien plot to destroy Earth, and now these bumbling heroes are Glenview’s only chance to save the neighborhood — and the world — from annihilation.

The Watch is an entertaining and laugh out loud look at 4 (supposedly) regular guys who decide to take things into their own hands after a murder in their community, It’s a new play on the classic film concept of battling boring life in suburbia, mixed in with an alien invasion and gross out humor. While the plot isn’t really the most original out there, the comedy all star combo helps save the day in more way than one and it’s a fun comedy for a date night at home.  A thinner Jonah hill is a little mellow, but has some nice laughs if you pay close attention, and Stiller is a little subdued as well, but still a nice lead in the film. Vince Vaughn for once isn’t a conniving ladies man but instead a super dad and is so tall he makes his cast mates look like preschoolers, but the film has good laughs and is one you’ll want to check out this holiday season.

The Watch is rated R and does feature adult humor and situations, so I’d save it until after the kids go to bed. Most of the humor is a touch on the crude and gross out side, so if you’re easily offended, this probably isn’t the comedy for you. Be sure to check out the bonus features including deleted scenes, gag reel and more. The Watch is available at stores everywhere November 13. Look for it at retailers near you and order from Amazon here.

This is one onf those movies that I was really excited to see and had all the intentions of seeing it at theatres but it just never fell through. So glad I’ll have the chance to finally see it in a few days!
