The holidays are almost here, and while you may already be making plans for pies, turkey and potatoes, have you thought about entertainment for what your family and friends will all do together once the dishes are done?
One fun family game that we’ve had the opportunity to check out recently is Scrabble CatchPhrase In this fun and frantic game of grabbing, guessing and passing your holiday guests will have a blast trying to get their teammates to guess each phrase before the buzzer sounds. Here’s how it work:
Give your teammates clues so they can guess the word or phrase on the game unit’s screen. But no rhyming, first letters or parts of the word, or the other team gets a point. Once your team has guessed it, pass the unit fast to the other team. When the buzzer goes off, whoever has the unit loses a point to the other side, so move fast. When your team gets to 7 points, you win.

The name of this game is a little confusing, since Scrabble Catch Phrase isn’t really anything like the original classic Scrabble. This game is more interactive and more suitable for parties and holiday gatherings. It reminds me a little of Taboo, but definitely more portable and easier to do when you have a group of guests. Choose from 5 categories including Everyday Life, The World, Fun & Games, Entertainment, and Variety and even TV & movie star Neil Patrick Harris of the CBS hit sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” has said, “It’s no secret I love games, and CATCH PHRASE has always been one of my favorites.”
While my kids are still too young for Scrabble Catch Phrase, this is a great game for older children and adults. It’s a loud, rowdy and fun, and a great game to play if you’ll have a group over this Thanksgiving. The game keeps store which makes it easy—especially with a crowd playing and the automatic timer will help with any arguments.
Look for Scrabble Catch Phrase at retailers near you and you can order from Amazon here. This game does require 3 AAA batteries, so if you’re buying this for a holiday party or a gift, make sure you pick up a pack as well so folks can play right away.

We play every chance we get! My daughter and I play in a Catch Phrase Group and I am a Substitute player in another group. These people are SERIOUS! My family plays every time we get together for holidays, Sunday Nights, etc. Tonight we are going to a friend’s house to play with another group of friends. We have the new game. NOT sure yet if we like the new beep beep beep faster and not much warning at the end. I love the new words however. I wish they would make a game that had disks to put in to change the words up and update with new ones.
I love family game night! Our favorites are the “get-together” games like Taboo and Scattergories. My grandparents and parents love Scrabble.
Popcorn, sodas, and board games for hours!
We order pizza or make spaghetti, pick on each other at the dinner table, then sometimes watch a movie.
We got to the dollar store and buy goodies and snacks, we also get some soda. Then we go home and get everything ready for game night, its one of our favorite nights!
