Getting great deals shopping is more than just using coupons. Not only do you need to watch the sales and buy certain items when they hit the best price (using coupons too of course!) but you also can save even more by using store reward programs when available.
Walgreens is one of our family’s favorites for scoring great deals. While I would have never thought that some of my biggest savings would come from a drugstore type chain, after learning how to coupon, we’ve saved thousands of dollars with Walgreens in the last couple years. Their hot promotions combined with coupons and Register Rewards have helped us save big, and now they have a great new rewards program in the mix.
Walgreens new Balance Rewards program not only helps you save on sale items with your reward card, but you can earn points on thousands of items each week, and even earn points for other things too! Redeeming the points is easy, and you can cash them in instantly with as few as 5000 points for even more savings right at the check out.
This app was quick to download, and I was surprised at how many options they had available and how much information was available via this easy to use app.
I spent some time this week trying out the Walgreens Balance Rewards app and I was really impressed. Not only is it a quick and easy way to manage your rewards, it’s also a quick way to check out the latest ads, get digital coupons, make shopping lists and more. One of my favorite features is that you can even check inventory of a particular item at your local stores before you make a special trip.
This feature is particularly important for us. We live about 30 minutes each way from the nearest Walgreens, so a shopping excursion is not a quick trip — and can also be expensive with the price of gas. I’ll definitely be using this part of the app in the future to check inventory before I make a special trip. I used the app not only to view the weekly ad online, but also to make my shopping list, which you can save, and e-mail as well in case you’ll have someone doing your shopping for you.
One thing I learned during my shopping trip is that AARP members can even more Balance Reward points for their purchases each month, so if you’re an AARP member — be sure to take advantage of this perk!
You can earn 500 points for every prescription and immunization, and also get 10 points for every mile when you Walk with Walgreens, so be sure to use your family walks or regular exercise to rack up rewards too!
This weekend I made a quick shopping trip with the mission of spending $25 and trying out the Walgreens Balance Rewards program. I picked up a few boxes of crackers, a razor, facial moisturizer, gum and some fun Halloween pencils for my son’s preschool class. I was able to combine coupons from the Walgreens mobile app, and the Walgreens Balance Rewards loyalty card with my manufacturer coupons to save 45% on my total purchase. Not too shabby for a short shopping trip on a Friday afternoon!
