This week my step daughter is at her mom’s and my husband is working nights, so it’s just me and my little man in the evenings. We’ve got great weather here in Iowa this week, so we went outside to play for a couple hours tonight. We went crazy on the playground, ran around, climbed on the equipment and went down the slides (yes, me too!). We had a great time, my two year old was happy and my pedometer also said a number that made me happy. It said I had burned 500 calories.
I’m not one that really likes to exercise. It’s tough to find the time with our crazy schedule, work, blogging, family and life in general. Running, walking, lifting weights isn’t really fun for me and I admit my treadmill is collecting dust in the basement. But one thing I’ve learned recently is that you don’t have to do “boring” exercise to help get in shape — you can do things that are fun too! If you go out with your kids to play, here’s how many calories you could each burn in just 15 minutes of play.*
Riding Bikes 113
Playing Ball 141
Shooting Hoops 226
Playing Frisbee 85
Playing Golf 127
Jumping Rope 340
Playing Soccer 198
Playing Volleyball 85
Since starting Nutrisystem in December, I’ve lost 43 pounds and have been working hard on getting healthy and back into shape. Not only has it helped me learn to eat better for myself, but it’s helped me take a new look at what I’m preparing for my family for meals and what we’re doing for exercise. Our whole family is eating healthier and it’s better for all of us.
So I guess the moral to this story, is you can find time to exercise, just by having fun together as a family. My son and I had a blast, I burned 500 calories plus I had 1 happy little boy.
