For myself and some of my blogging buddies, this week is a beauty boot camp of sorts. We’ve been shopping for dresses, shoes, makeup and bags. Getting our hair done, eyebrows waxed manicures and more. The reason for all this preparation? In just a few short days we’re being whisked off to NYC for a special VIP red carpet advance screening of Marvel’s The Avengers.
Now, I’m not exactly a girly girl. I live mostly in jeans and sandals and even though I wear office attire to work, I maybe wear a dress once a year on an anniversary date with husband. I didn’t even wear a wedding dress when we got hitched. The last time I bought a formal dress was nearly a decade ago during an unfortunate and ugly bridesmaid incident that we best not talk about here in a public forum.
However since this small town Iowa mom of 2 doesn’t exactly get to go run elbows with celebrities every day in the big apple, it was time for me to trade in my flip flops and capris for something a bit more glam. Being a plus size for all of my adult life, clothes shopping pretty much as always sucked, and it’s difficult to find cute things that fit — especially in a rural area where the nearest mall is 90+ miles away.
This time however, it was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. The reason? In the last few months I’ve lost 40 pounds on Nutrisystem. Admittedly it was awhile ago, but the last time I bought a dress it was a size 28. This time — a size 18! While for you skinny minnies out there, that size may still seem huge, but it’s a tough accomplishment for those of us who battle with the scale daily and it’s SO nice to not have to be limited to just a couple options on a sad, pathetic little plus size rack in the back of the store.
While all dieting regardless of what one you do is work, Nutrisystem has made it possible for me to have my first successful weight loss in — well ever. The perfectly portioned meals and easy to follow plan has made it easier for me to achieve my goals, and actually fit into a smaller dress to rock on the red carpet next weekend. For the first time in years, I’m no longer embarrassed about my appearance and might actually pose for some of the cameras on the big night.
Watch for lots of inside scoop about this big event coming soon. And MANY thanks Nutrisystem! Couldn’t have done it without you!
